Relevant and Timely

Rick Miller does a great job getting to the heart of what we, as educators, need to keep as a priority. This is the fact that the relationships we develop with students are the most important aspect of educating. With the tremendous amount of energy and focus being on the common core, testing, growing students academically, etc. we tend to forget that none of this can be accomplished without adults who express their belief in the students. This easy to read book brings home strategies and real life applications to help students believe in themselves while reminding educators why they got involved in this career in the first place.

What the fans have been waiting for

I have been looking for a book about the Pretty Little Liars tv show ever since the show began. This is the first and only book I have found. It covers the first 2 seasons. The book covers every episode as well as just about every aspect of the show including cast, characters, facts, etc. The book includes many pictures in both color and b&w. If you are a fan of the series you will want this book.

Liv Spencer's Rosewood Confidential goes in-depth into the first two seasons of the hit ABC Family series Pretty Little Liars. In keeping with the format of other show guides from ECW Press, Rosewood Confidential goes episode by episode with a summary of what happened followed by other tidbits like "extra credit" (explanations of references made in the episode), "slip ups" (mistakes made), and "back to the books" (how Sara Shepard's books relate to the show) among others. At the beginning of the book are the biographies of the main actors; those who play secondary characters are profiled throughout the episode guides. There are also extras like features on the music and wardrobe to break up the standard format a bit.

Spencer definitely did her research on the show, but I didn't always agree with what she deemed "slip ups." For example, she calls it a goof when Hanna claims not to be able to afford a fancy hotel despite her expensive wardrobe in episode 1.03 and again when Hanna says the dance in episode 1.14 is for a good cause even though it's to benefit their class trip. I can explain these (and some of the other so-called slip ups) easily as being very much in character. Hanna's already been established as a shoplifter, so the expensive clothes probably weren't paid for. As for the dance, Hanna's exactly the sort that would think "a good cause" is her own class trip. However, I did appreciate the inclusion (even if it wasn't really a slip up) of an interesting nugget of information regarding episode 1.21. In that episode it seemed weird that the girls kept saying website when they were clearing referring to Facebook. Spencer clears up the mystery by revealing that "website" had to be dubbed in later when the ABC Family lawyers told them they couldn't use Facebook. Little facts like that make Rosewood Confidential a great read.

Love It

When I received this book it was again in excellent shape and condition. I just got started watching the series on Netflix and saw that you had the books I had to get them. All received in good condition. Except for one. But nothing major it was used and when a book has a little wear it is a book that was loved and read. Would highly recommend Amazon.

This was a pretty good read

This was a pretty good read. This was not just a book about hair loss, but about our health in general. It points out the rising trend that more and more young men are suffering from male pattern baldness at earlier ages. And that indigenous people like "Eskimos" don't seem to suffer from this affliction. It considers what many in the scientific community studying hair loss in men do not consider, and that is MPB may not be the result of random genetics happening to people "Just cause". Slator makes a compelling argument for MPB being the result of poor health brought about by unnatural habits modern men in society practice. From eating against our individual genetics to sexual practices that deplete vital "energies" or nutrients (A view not considered by modern science as a correlation to MPB since it is based off of an opposing view in their health) this book considers multiple angles and how each may be a factor. Another great plus is that these alternative approaches can be halted and possibly reversed through simple means like finding your correct diet or changing your bedroom practices. This is an interesting solution than just get surgery or wait for the next medical miracle.
The downside is that some of the conclusions can seem drawn from vague sources at times and the author seems unable to backup many of his claims with authoritative expert sources. It would really help his position if he could get a third party opinion from some trusted source. The questionnaire about finding the correct diet seemed good at first, but there was an instance of a question repeating itself, and a few possible answers to some of the questions missing. While not discrediting does weaken the argument that it is valid for finding your correct or natural diet.
All in all I would say that even if your are not a balding man wanting to stop his hair from falling out, this book is still a must read for anyone studying the subject. It might make a few leaps but the arguments deserve more research and it is a shame the scientific establishment studying this phenomenon don't do them. It is still a refreshing read on the subject and can remind a reader that there are other views of health and that no single answer is necessarily the right answer.

Not Bad / Not Great - But a subject that needs more coverage.

I felt compelled to write a review since it doesn't look like this book has any yet. The title certainly grabbed my attention, but overall at least for me, there wasn't much that I hadn't read before online. I skimmed through quite a bit of the book because of that. I will probably go back and read it again. I wouldn't say it was a waste of time. The author presents a number of modern health concepts/habits with the focus being hair. I think if you've never researched hair loss in any depth online or any kind of health self improvement, you'll find this book full of things you might have never thought of before. I am curious though as to why the author at some point in the book mentions "his client's," but there is no information in the book about who the author is or what kind of background he comes from.

A good book, but could be more complete

This is one of the few books, if not the only one, on Egyptian Jews that mention the detention camps of Abu Zaabal and Tura.
I knew a person who was one of about 400 to 500 Jews interned in Egypt during the Six Day War for up to 3 years. He stayed 3 years and 15 days between 1967 and 1970. He was tortured: ordered to walk on broken glass, beaten on the head repeatedly. Some of the younger inmates were raped.
The book has a lot of details about property sequestration, and the dispossession of Egyptian Jewry. The author seems to be detail oriented. However he did not detail our suffering and torture in Abu Zaabal and Tura.
The author is a little bit dry, but that preference is a drawback, since as a result, he may have avoided talking about torture. I encourage him to go with a second edition, but before he does that, he should talk to the Abu Zaabal and Tura internees.

Essential piece of history

If you're interested at all in the Second Exodus from Egypt, this is an essential book. Laskier reviews the early 20th century history of the Jewish community in Egypt, and then runs down, year by year, how nearly all Jews left Egypt. He differentiates the conditions of each year in the critical period from the end of WWII until the late 60s, and reviews the different exit routes and destinations and sources of help for different streams of the Second Exodus.

This isn't a set of anecdotes - it is real and solid history. The bibliography checks out, and the notes are useful in themselves.

Set in the mining country of Buchanan County, Va., a fast-paced synopsis of a case that received national attention: the conviction and execution of Roger Coleman for the 1981 murder of his sister-in-law, Wanda McCoy. The evidence of the investigation, writes the author, indicates detectives decided almost immediately that miner Roger Coleman was the prime suspect, though according to witnesses who saw Coleman on the night of the murder, the medical examiner's timeline did not allow for him to have committed the crime. Coleman, at age 22, had done time for attempted rape and was presumed one of only a handful of people whom Wanda might have admitted to the house. He was charged and jailed without bond. Later he was indicted on the basis of his prior record, the family connection, the apparent lack of forced entry at the crime scene, and less-than-conclusive blood and hair evidence. When the case went to trial, says Tucker, it was tilted dramatically in favor of the prosecution. Afterward, an appeal by death-row advocates for Coleman, claiming that he had not received effective assistance of counsel at trial (his court-appointed lawyer had little trial experience and none in death-penalty cases) was dismissed because the notice of appeal was filed a day late. And the murder under mysterious circumstances of a most important new witness who might have earned him a retrial doomed Coleman's chances of reversing his conviction. Tucker, who was a criminal defense attorney in Chicago, brings a lawyer's thoroughness to his telling of the story. Allowing the known facts to stand for themselves, drawing on the work of the Coleman's death-row lawyers, the author builds a credible case for his innocence. This book has now been proven wrong

Even though this book is nicely written, easy to follow, and quite intriguing, it has now been proven both out of date and wrong. The man accussed of murder, Roger Coleman, was conclusively proven guilty just recently, using DNA tests, which did not exist back when the murder happened, nor when this book was written. Unfortunately the author clearly thinks that Coleman is innocent, because the evidence appeared weak. So you will probably only enjoy this book if you are interested in a case where a man was executed on what looked like weak evidence.

Still a well-written, if flawed book

I first read "May God have mercy" 4 yrs back, and despite having no position on the death penalty, found it a compelling and harrowing read.

At that point I thought that Coleman was probably guilty and yet I believed that his guilt was not proved beyond a reasonable doubt in the original trial. However, midway through the book, the first DNA test provided very strong evidence of Coleman's guilt. I also found it hard to believe that Coleman was this baby faced innocent and was just unfortunate to be wrongly accused 3 times of sex crimes (the original rape, the incident in the library, and the murder/rape).

Clearly Coleman was a heavily manipulative guy who was able to take in a number of people, including the author. Yet, they should all have realized after the original DNA test that the evidence was now very strong. The counterclaims sometimes were not just "she said he said" but more like "he said that she said that he said that he had killed Wanda McCoy).

Some of the slightly puzzling points in the original trial -- the man who alibi'd Coleman remain puzzling (although the author didn't comment on how reliable that witness was), as well as some of the other evidence relating to entry.

James McCloskey's recent statement about accepting the truth and his personal anguish about having been deceived is notable. Its a shame that this decent and honorable man was fooled by a murderous rapist into wasting his time and energy. He is a victim of Coleman as much as anyone else.

Despite the author's bias, I still give the book 3 stars. May God have mercy -- on poor Wanda McCoy.
