Great summary of the Institutes

I am using this book for a second time in an upper division theology class at a Christian university. I have students read a chapter and then give a quiz over the material.

I find that these chapters catch the big ideas and present them in an understandable way. These readings are a bit tough for juniors and seniors, but that's a good thing. Calvin shouldn't be too easy, right?

I would have given five stars if the writing had been broadened a bit more. My students are able to follow the ideas, but it hasn't made them fall in love with Calvin.

In sum, if you are looking for a book that helps you understand The Institutes more, this is a great place to start.

A multi-cultural math tale

I have used this book to teach mathematic lessons to grades one through three. It serves as a great springboard for discussion on factors, prime numbers and patterns. The pictures are delightful and the children love to make predictions on just who will make the King happy. My students choose to return to this book over and over again.

Great moral, great math.

This book is a childhood favorite. The animals all try to shoot an arrow and count to ten before it lands. if they succeed, they become the next king of the jungle. Finally, an animal steps up, and although he is not the strongest, he wins through his knowledge of skip counting. It's an easy, quick read, but it provides a clear reason for why skip counting is a needed skill to learn. Furthermore, it reminds the kid how intelligence is a useful attribute and should be worked for (which will help them focus on skip counting even more).

Interesting storyline...

I bought this book for my 4 year old. He liked the story and was seriously thinking why other animals did not think about skip counting before. I found this book quite unique because few few books deal with skip counting in the form of stories. The huge number of animals caught his fancy as well. We have been trying to get him introduced to other cultures and their literature and this book is a good addition to our collection.

Frantisek Korbel is a Zend Certified Engineer and his work includes programming, video editing and web design. In 2004 he created a First Aid Basics freeware using Macromedia Flash and since then he often works with animations and video. Great Book!

In general, this is a very detailed description of the use of ffmpeg, accompanied by many examples, charts and diagrams.
I found this book an easy read and I am actively using it as a reference for ffmpeg capabilities.

chapter 1) style is a walk thru tutorial. nice description of ffmpeg and related tools, executables and underlying libraries.
Author also mentions the various key developers of ffmpeg and their particular expertise;
I thought this background added to intro chapter nicely.

Another nice touch is mentioning environment settings and alternative cmd prompt programs that can be used in place of the basic 'DOS' prompt.

The author then dives into command line use of the ffmpeg tool in regards to output formatting,transcoding basics and the various media streams.

chapter 2 continues the introduction theme and describes the help and features of ffmpeg.
This is a fairly indepth overview of help syntax and usage of the help syntax;
There is a complete list of the video and audio codecs, filters and formats and a very nice caterogization of each;

Excellent book!

I bought the pdf version of the book (on the official website), and though I haven't read it all, I know that this book is currently the best guide/book on learning ffmpeg. The author does a really good job in keeping things organized and using plain English to describe how to use ffmpeg.

The only thing I wish there was more of was more examples or "projects" to reinforce the material learned, but this can easily be done by testing out the material on your own with the examples already provided.

Overall, I enjoy reading this book and think that anyone wanting to learn ffmpeg should start with this book.

If you compress a lot of video, sooner or later you're going to have to get familiar with FFmpeg. This book does a great job organizing the information in a very extensive table of contents (though there is no index), and provides simple command line arguments for all configuration options that you can easily integrate into your own encodings.

Sure, all the information is on the Internet, but for $20 this book will save you a bunch of time and provide much better answers.

A God-Send For Insights Into Life And Healing

I started reading bibles in depth 3 years ago, and I have purchased just about every translation and study bible in print. I was looking for God, for healing, for insights into what it really means to be a Christian, how to find release from the bondage of addictions and idolatry of any sort, and how to grow spiritually.
I purchased this bible in August 2002. Since then, I have found answers in it that no amount of personal or group bible study using other bibles, Christian radio, professional counseling by therapists or pastors, church attendance, or prayer have given me.
Almost every page has foot-notes, devotionals, in-depth comments, which teach about addictions and how to gain freedom, details about the road to recovery, all within a Christ-centered framework using the 12 Alcoholics Anonymous steps.
You can look up just about any life-experience topic in the excellently organized index/concordance in the back of the Bible, to focus on passages which help you understand who you are, what you do, why you do it, and ways to gain release from whatever plagues you, and get closer to God in order to gain peace and restoration.
I have abandoned all my other bibles in favor of this one. I would urge anyone who needs help in self-control, discipline, overcoming compulsive/obsessive behaviors, to dig into the Life Recovery Bible. You will be blessed abundantly.
If you simply want to grow spiritually, and you have no addictions, this bible is also for you.
Every day I can look forward to new insights and teachings in this bible, which I can apply immediately to my life.
The text is easy to read for such a large Bible, the NLT translation is easy to understand, and the footnotes and other devotionals do not interfere with my enjoyment of every page.
There is another Life Recovery Bible in the NIV (New International Version), which in my opinion is not nearly as good as this one.

A Wonderful Version of the Bible + Great Devotionals!

I HIGHLY recommend the Life Recovery Bible. I have been a Christian for over 30 years and the New Living Translation has enabled me to understand the Bible in a whole new way. It was written in such a way so that it flows naturally and can be read easily outloud. I have never loved the Old Testament as much as I do now, after purchasing and using the Life Recovery Bible for several years.

The devotionals included in the Life Recovery Bible are worth buying this book, even if you don't want another Bible to use. I have given many of these Bibles out as gifts to friends dealing with all sorts of issues including depression, addictions, etc. Everyone I know that has one, LOVES it!

This is a Bible for someone who wants to grow and change. The devotionals are inspiring and motivating as well as encouraging. God has used this Bible greatly in my life and everyone I know who has one.

Life-saving book

All I can say is that I felt so alone and alien to the world before beginning to read this book. Now I realize I am not/was not alone, and there is hope for addicts. We don't want to live that way, but sometimes feel helpless and trapped. This book will help you realize that with God anything is possible, even recovery from hopeless addiction.
I recommend this book for any person struggling with any type of addiction in their life. It perfectly relates scripture to recovery in your life today.
